The Potentiality for Development of Multiple Dural Arteriovenous Fistulas after Ligation of the Internal Jugular Vein: A Case Report

چکیده
A 74-year-old male presented with an intracranial hemorrhage caused by multiple dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs) in the left transverse sinus and right sigmoid sinus. Four months previously, the patient underwent tongue cancer removal with lymph node dissection and ligation of the right internal jugular vein. Endovascular embolization (transvenous and transarterial embolization) resulted in the complete disappearance of the fistulas. Follow-up angiography revealed new arteriovenous shunts at the superior sagittal sinus and right transverse sinus, and we treated the patient with staged transarterial embolization. Finally, venous congestion almost completely resolved and the DAVFs disappeared without any sign of recurrence. This case speculates the concept of DAVF as an acquired lesion caused by intravenous hypertension and alerts clinicians to take precautions against ligation of the internal jugular vein during a cervical operation.

Spinal dural arteriovenous fistula : a case report
Background: Spinal dural AVF is the most common type of spinal vascular malformation. However, presenting symptoms differ according to site of spinal involvement. This study described a case of arteriovenous malformation with paraparesis and incontinence. Case Presentation: Diagnosis of patient was confirmed by clinical and imaging examination using magnetic resonance image and ruling out ot...

THE collateral circulation that develops invariably in the vicinity of a systemic arteriovenous fistula has impressed generations of surgeons who have treated these lesions. Investigators in various surgical modalities have sought to apply this principle to enhance the blood supply of specific regional tissue. The most successful application to date has been the creation of femoral arteriovenou...
متن کاملPhlebectasia of Internal Jugular Vein- A Rare Differential Case of Neck Swelling With Review of Literature
Introduction: Internal jugular vein ectasia is a condition in which there is a dilatation of the internal jugular vein. A patient usually presents in the first decade with swelling in the neck, which aggravates in size while straining or coughing. This is a very rare condition and the chances of misdiagnosis are quite high. It is diagnosed by proper history taking, examination, and radiol...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Doppler sonography has been used to assess global cerebral circulation time (CCT) in healthy volunteers and a small number of patients with cerebral arteriovenous malformations. We evaluated the effect of arteriovenous shunts on global CCT in patients with dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs) by using this Doppler echo contrast-bolus tracking test. METHODS We measured C...
